WASHINGTON Eric Dickerson Rams Jersey , Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced Monday that the U.S. Justice Department had opened a probe into the Chicago Police Department's practices following the release of a video showing a white officer shooting dead a black young man in 2014.


The federal investigation was mainly focused on whether the Chicago Police Department had engaged in "a pattern or practice of violations of the Constitution or federal law," said Lynch here at a press conference.


"Specifically, we will examine a number of issues related to the CPD's use of force, including its use of deadly force; racial, ethnic and other disparities in its use of force Jamon Brown Rams Jersey ," said Lynch, adding that the CPD's accountability mechanisms would also be under investigation.


The announcement came about two weeks after police officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with murder in the killing of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.


Tensions had heightened recently in Chicago, Illinois, after the release of a video clip showing Van Dyke shot McDonald 16 times after the teenager walked away from him.


The Justice Department had in the last six years opened more than 20 investigations into police departments. In March, the department released a scathing report of the Ferguson police force in the state of Missouri that found widespread discrimination against the black communities among law enforcement officials.

Canada, the United States and Mexico concluded the four-day third round of NAFTA renegotiation on Wednesday in Ottawa, Canada and later made a joint statement.


Negotiators from the three countries made progress in several areas through the consolidation of text proposals Gerald Everett Rams Jersey , narrowing gaps and agreeing to elements of the negotiated text, said the statement.


"Meaningful advancements were made in the areas of telecommunications, competition policy, digital trade, good regulatory practices Rob Havenstein Rams Jersey , and customs and trade facilitation," said the joint statement.


The third round of talks also saw advances in areas including the development of small and medium enterprises.


However, the statement made no mention of some of tough issues facing the negotiators, including rules of origin and Chapter 19 for dispute resolution.

Coparmex is part of the group of advisors of the Mexican government during the NAFTA talks. In its statement, the association recognizes the importance of NAFTA for Mexico's economic stability and development, while supporting its modernization.

Holding the same view, Mexican Finance Secretary Jose Meade said Wednesday in an interview with Mexican mess media Televisa that further tensions might well lie ahead after the third round of renegotiation of the commercial agreement.


"It is natural ... as the rounds (of talks) advance, tensions and difficulties begin to appear," said Meade.


He vowed that the Mexican government would continue working to secure NAFTA as a mechanism for further regional integration that benefits all three countries.

He also pointed out that as the United States has maintained its positions in the talks, Mexico as well as Canada also remained firm in its intention.

The fourth round of talks is scheduled for Oct. 11-15 in Washington.
